and i'm maria silva. welcome to fox5 news this morning. first - les krifaton joins us with a quick look at the fox 5 weather 24-7 forecast. dry cool and weather continues for las vegas on wednesday. we will experience occasional breezy conditions as a weak disturbance in the atmosphere stirs up some winds late in the afternoon and evening. as the trough moves east thursday it will cool slightly. then temperatures will warm up to seasonal values as high pressure starts to dominate the weekend forecast.

donald trump and hillary clinton are in a dead heat. both camps will be in town this week drumming up support. republican presidential nominee donald trump is holding a rally at the henderson pavilion this morning. it starts at 11-30. doors open at 8- 30. democratic vice presidential nominee tim kaine will be encouraging people to get out and register to vote tomorrow. the deadline to register by mail is this saturday. but you can still register to vote in person or online until october 18- th. for 90 minutes, farmville, virginia was the center of the political universe. the vice- presidential candidates duked it out in their one and only debate tuesday night. cnn's scott mclean joins us live from longwood university with the recap of the v-p's big night in the spotlight... good morning scott... when the male driver of a 20-16 honda c-r-v hit him. the pedestrian died at u-m-c. the driver was not hurt. his female passenger suffered minor injuries. henderson police need help solving a murder after a man was shot and killed while driving home from work. christopher stewart's children and wife describe him as a family man. the 49-year old was last seen early monday morning at "the bar" on bermuda and saint rose. police say stewart took one of three routes home. they are trying to figure out if he was shot on volunteer or executive airport dr he called 9-1-1 to say he was shot, before crashing into a light pole. he later died at the hospital. the married father of four had six grandchildren. he was also a navy veteran. crying "he loved us so much and he was so proud to just be a grandpa. so proud." crying "we know what kind of man he was, you know, he was always willing to give... he was

never started trouble." stewart's family says he was picking up dinner at "the bar" that night. they say he didn't even stop for a drink. the local community joined forces with metro for a "national night out." the goal of the event was to create positive relationships between police and the community they serve. there were resources... food... raffles and vendors to help promote being safe and alert on valley roads. there was also an anti-violence walk. 9-year-old brazyl ward was the special guest of the evening. brazyl's family story of the night, back in 20-13, she was hit by a car while trick-or- treating. "it's also about driver safety as well. trying to make people more vigilant. trying to make the kids more cognizant of what they're going through when their walking." the event was sponsored by metro police... the fire department... and clark county parks and recreation.

through the caribbean sea, the storm is making for some incredible images. the eye of the storm was spotted from space on monday. astronauts aboard the international space station captured this video. hurricane matthew is approaching the bahamas right now. as we speak, the category three storm is moving north through the caribbean toward florida. the massive storm is unleashing destructio island nations including haiti. the dangerous storm surge is producing strong winds and heavy rains and is expected to strengthen in the coming days. forecasters say the hurricane will cross the bahamas through thursday. it should reach florida's atlantic coastline by friday. carnival cruise lines docks one of its ships as hurricane matthew trudges through the caribbean, and passengers are furious. saturday night they received an email, hours before they were to set sail, stating the ship would be

"we just want to go home at this point there's nothing they could do to make this cruise if you want to call it a cruise better." a carnival cruise line spokesperson says it had to avoid the weather conditions to keep the ship out of harms way. several other cruise lines made changes to their itineraries due to the storm. check out this super creepy picture of hurricane matthew. the satellite image essentially resembles a human skull. this sinister- looking image was captures as the storm made landfall in haiti.
